How to create a custom tracking domain?

You can track opens, link clicks and reply button clicks with your own custom tracking domain to improve deliverability.

All users track links, opens and reply buttons using Replybutton’s domains. We monitor these domains but you can take tracking into your own hands by setting up your own custom domain.

1. Click on “Team Control” and then “Team Settings” in the left menu2. Create a sub-domain and set up a CNAME DNS record

In order for you to edit your domain’s DNS (domain name service) records, you’ll need some kind of administrator access. The process of editing DNS records is different from web host to web host, but the basic steps are this:

  • Create a new DNS record (example: links.mycompany.com)
  • Choose CNAME as the type of record
  • In the value textbox, enter tracking.replybutton.com
  • You can find some general providers in Google’s page

Example of how your DNS settings might look:

    3. Enter your domain in Replybutton and click “Verify” button

If your domain is verified, you will see the green check icon near to your domain like below.  After verifying your custom tracking domain, you need to wait for 6 hours until we activate it. Please do not create a campaign in this process.

We’ll do a check of your DNS records and see if everything looks good.  If this doesn’t work right away, please note that it can take up to 72 hours before these kinds of changes get distributed around the Internet.
